Down the rabbit hole...

I have been putting off making a post about Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, because ever since the pictures of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen were released, every other blog was talking about it. But now I want a piece of the teacake, and I thought now would be the time, since the preview for the movie was recently released. It's not a secret that I am obsessed with both Tim Burton and Lewis Carroll's book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. And a couple of years ago, when I found out two of my favorite things were making a baby, it was very hard to contain my excitement. Did I say "excitement?" I meant "freak out." I had another episode when I saw the first preview. It was absolutely visually stunning, as all Burton films are. It looks dark, magical, twisted, beautiful. I am amazed with what they did with the Red Queen and Tweedledee and Tweedledum (Matt Lucas). And I don't think I have ever seen a film more perfectly cast (The Caterpillar - Alan Rickman; The White Rabbit - Michael Sheen; The Cheshire Cat - Stephen Fry). But I want to pay special attention to Crispin Glover (the Knave of Hearts), Helena Bonham Carter, and the man who can do no wrong, Johnny Depp. Am I the only one who thinks it is long overdue that Crispin Glover is finally in a Tim Burton movie? I am strangely attracted to him, and I think I might have to dedicate a future post to him. Helena Bonham Carter -- is there anyone else who could play the Red Queen as well as her? Johnny Depp, Johnny Depp, Johnny Depp. He looks completely unrecognizable, yet he is still beautiful. I think I want the Mad Hatter's wardrobe the most. For now on, I think all of these actors should be in all future Burton projects, except maybe Anne Hathaway. The film comes out March 5, 2010. I think I will be able to die happy after that. No... wait... I won't die happy until Tim Burton directs an adaptation of one of Neil Gaiman's novels.
